When It comes to
Skincare, we usually and actively keep searching about the products that we can
use to make out skin healthy or the treatments that we can undergo to make our
skin look flawless, young and healthy. But regardless of using expensive
products or even going through numerous skin treatments, we can still do not
end up getting a permanent or consistent healthy skin.
I know for most of you
guys the above mentioned paragraph resonates a lot. But I would not want you to
read that and then start blaming your dermatologist or curse the expensive
products that you had been using but they could not give long lasting effects.
The major reason why
your skin may still be not getting that glow, shine and flawless look is
because you are doing some skincare mistakes on a daily basis without knowing
how dangerous they are for your skin in reality.
Hence, this blog post is dedicated to all of you and
it states all the skin care mistakes that you have been doing and need to avoid
to help your skin become flawless and beautiful.
Let’s begin our blog post!
Skincare Mistakes To Avoid
1. Not Using Sunscreen On A Daily Basis
Since we all know that
sun keeps emitting Ultraviolet Rays that can damage our skin and can cause premature
skin wrinkles, initiate early aging and be a reason of dark spots on skin as
well.
In order to stay protected from the harmful rays of
sun, a sunscreen is a must. There are many amongst us who never took or still
do not take sunscreen serious, but trust me a sunscreen should become a must
for your daily skincare routine and you should be wearing a sunscreen either
you are inside or outside the house in direct sunlight.
If you are thinking why would someone need to wear
sunscreen inside the house, then let me tell you that even if you are not
getting direct exposure from sunlight, UV Rays can still enter your house
through windows and can impact you skin. Whereas on the other hand you should
also be using a sunscreen as a must if you are someone who cooks on a daily
basis to protect your skin from kitchen and stove heat and prevent early aging
and dark spots on your skin.
Using sunscreen on a
regular basis can also make you look younger than your age. Hence if you are
making the mistake of not using sunscreen on a daily basis, then you must start
using it from today and keep it somewhere, where you can find it to use on a
daily basis.
2. Not Removing Makeup Before Exercise Or Before Sleeping
If you use makeup on a
daily basis or even rarely, you must not go to bed or for a walk or exercise with
your makeup on. Always remove our makeup at night and cleanse your face
properly and use a night time skin routine or any night cream if you are not
fond of following long night time routine with many products.
If you do not remove makeup before bed or during exercise,
it can penetrate inside your skin and clog your pores resulting in clogged
pores, acne and spots.
Always make sure to
remove your makeup and go to bed with freshly washed and moisturized skin. Also
hit your gym with clean face and try avoiding wearing heavy makeup to gym.
3. Over Exfoliating
We all love exfoliating our skin
don’t we?
As we all know that
skin exfoliation is a good way to get rid of excess dead skin and to help
product reach our skin deeper and moisturize it evenly, but still excess of
everything including exfoliation is bad for skin.
I will not suggest anyone to exfoliate their skin
more than twice a week. You may go for thrice with gentle exfoliators if you
are trying to combat dark spots on your skin but anything more than that can
actually harm your skin and cause more damage than actually repairing it.
Try to exfoliate once a
week only if you do not have any dark spots on your skin and do not exfoliate
more than twice or thrice a week if your skin can handle it and you are working
on removing dark spots from your skin. But I would still suggest you to consult
your dermatologist before going for a two or three day exfoliation routine.
4. Not Changing Towels Every Few Days Or Sharing Towels
Every single person in my family
knows that touching or using my towel is a red alert in the house and I would
not use my towel before washing it if anyone else except me has used it even
once.
Trust me; this is not an
extremist approach. If you are someone like me who has an acne prone or
sensitive skin, you should never share your towel with anyone or never use
anyone else’s towel as well.
Not only you should be avoiding sharing towels but
you should also make sure to wash you towels every few days and not use one
towel more than few days.
This will not only help
protect your skin from germs that may transfer from other people who are using
your towel but you can also avoid getting extra dirt or dust by washing your
towels every few days that may be coming and sitting on your towel fibers from
outside or air.
5. Using Same Skincare Routine For Day Time And Night Time
Just the way use different portions of meal for
breakfast and dinner, similarly we need to take care of what products we are
using for day time and night time skin care routine.
Whilst during day our major focus is to protect our
skin from dirt, UV Rays and keeping it hydrated, our night time focus majorly
should be on double cleansing our skin, removing makeup and giving a chance to
our skin to replenish itself and repair itself overnight.
Hence always make sure to do a deep analysis of your
skin type and then choose your own specific day time skincare routine and night
time skin care routine.
For example you may go
for a sunscreen in morning and then a moisturizer and makeup afterwards
including any serum like Vitamin C but when it comes to night time skin care
routine you should be focusing on exfoliating your skin, cleansing,
moisturizing and using retinol and eye creams that will not only clean and
hydrate your skin but will also help repair and replenish it overnight.
6. Not Washing Your Makeup Brushes or Sponges
Just like towels, your
makeup brushes can also collect dead skin and dust from environment and they
need to be cleaned very often so that you are not using them whilst they have
old product or dust particles over them.
Same goes for your
makeup sponges. You should consider soaking them in makeup washing cleansers
and water mixture and then wash and dry them to use them again.
You may not have much
time to clean your makeup brushes or sponges very often and to curtail that
issue, you can consider buying extra sets of sponges or makeup brushes so that
you can keep using them and replacing with the used ones and them wash them
altogether at the end of the month or when you have a day you can use to wash
your brushes, sponges and arrange your makeup.
But remember to
not keep using your used makeup brushes and sponges for weeks without washing
them
7. Not Replacing Pillow Covers Or Not Washing Them
I
am amazed how people talk too much about using freshly washed pillow cases or
silk pillow cases for hair care and hair health, but no one ever mentions the
same for healthy skin.
Never ignore your pillows, cushions
or bed sheets and the importance of washing them very often. Do not use same
pillow covers or bed sheets for weeks. Trust me I have seen many close friends
and family members doing so.
Make
sure to change your bed sheets and pillow covers every few days and you will
notice a change in your skin yourself.
8. Not Using Skin Care Products In Right Order
Using
your skin care routine products can have a very slow or reverse impact or
results if not used in a proper order. Therefore, I will always recommend you
guys to use your skin care products in right order. For example during your
night time skin care routine, you should:
Double cleaning your face by
removing the makeup with makeup removing wipes, oils or micellar water and then
removing the rest of products by using a water based cleanser and cold or luke
warm water.
After cleansing your face, you
should use your toner.
Right after toner is the right time
to apply your serums or antioxidants for example Vitamin C or Retinol etc.
After using antioxidants or serums,
you should apply your eye cream and then a moisturizer that suits your skin
really well.
Now some of us like to use oils on
our skin as well, for example I use almond oil or jasmine oil on a regular
basis sometimes as they suit my skin a lot, hence using the oils should always
come last your night time skin care routine.
9. Not Focusing On Our Neck Area Or Other Parts Of Skin That Require Daily Care
By
default when we use the term skin care, most of us think about our face. But in
reality skin care routine should not only involve our face.
You should
always make sure to use your skin care products up till your neck area and also
incorporate skin care routine for your body, hands and feet especially. Most of
us tend to ignore our feet or neck a lot when doing our night time skin routine
and trust me doing so can have adverse effects in the long run.
Never
ignore your feet, neck or hands and body during your skin care routine and try
to keep them in focus especially at night time because that is the time we are
a bit relaxed and can take out half an hour for ourselves, for no one else will
take better care of our skin than our own selves.
