Skincare routine is a must for every single one of us. Even the lazy ones amongst us have at least two or three skincare products that are always on their vanity table or in the bathroom.
But for those of you who are actually into following both a day time skincare routine and night time skincare routine, I would really like to bring this in your notice that not following the correct order of using your skincare products can actually lead into doing nothing for your skin and you may end up not getting any results even by consistently using your skincare products on a daily basis.
You can change the order of applying makeup and still get a flawless look, but messing up the order of applying skincare products can actually cause more harm than benefit.
Today in this blog post, I am going to break down the correct order of applying skincare products for day time skincare routine. You can find the correct order of applying night time skincare routine in another dedicated blog post in our “Skincare Tips” category.
Let’s begin our blog post!
Correct Order Of Using Day Time Skin Care Products
1. Cleanser
Cleansing your face should always be your first or top priority when it comes to your day time skincare routine. You can use either water based cleanser or an oil based cleanser based on what suits your skin.
If you are thinking why should you be opting for cleanser, then let me tell you that even if you were sleeping with a clean face, there are still chances that any dust particles or impurities may have transferred to your skin from your pillow case, hence along with a morning shower a gentle cleansing is totally recommended as the first step for you day time or morning skincare routine.
2. Toner
A toner helps to further clean your skin from any leftover dirt on your face if left from cleansing or step one of the routine. It also helps to hydrate your skin and help get rid of dead skin cells.
You can apply any toner that suits your skin and use it right after cleansing your face. Either put it directly onto your skin or you can also spray or pour it down on a cotton swab and then gently swipe it all over your face.
My most favorite and natural toner product has always been rose water. It is one of those products that will always be present in my skincare and it really makes huge difference in your skin. So if you are looking for an all-natural skin toner and other chemical based toners do not suit your skin, then you can surely opt for rose water without any doubts.
Also do keep in mind that you should always consider applying your toner in an outward position if you are using hand, cotton pads or swabs and not spraying it on your skin.
3. Antioxidant Serum
Serums are really effective for your skin. They do not only hydrate your skin but they also prevent it from damages that can be caused by UV Rays or any kind of radicals that can affect the skin.
Hence right after applying the toner, you should be opting for your Antioxidant Serum for your skincare routine’s next step.
You can opt for any antioxidant serum that suits your skin, but mostly Vitamin C serum is widely used by almost every single skincare obsessed person.
4. Eye Cream
Eye cream is the next step of your morning skincare routine. Our skin around our eyes is really delicate and it requires extra care and definitely products that are specially customized for this thin layered skin area.
Hence to keep you skin around your eyes elastic, so that it does not gets fine lines or dark circles, you should always use an Eye Cream that suits your skin type and has shown effective results.
Always apply your eye cream below your eyes, around your eye area and also on your lids up till your brow bone for best results.
5. Moisturizer
Moisturizer is the most common skincare product that every person uses even if they are not following many products for their skincare routines, which make it the most common skincare product.
One huge misconception that I have seen is that people with oily skin think they really need to skip on the moisturizer, but let me tell this to you guys that moisturizer is most needed by those who have oily skin type.
Right after your eye cream, you should apply a moisturizer that suits best for your skin type and please keep in mind to opt for a different moisturizer for different season. For example the moisturizer that you use during summers may not work the same during winters as our skins tend to shift their texture in response to the weathers. So try to figure out two best kinds of moisturizers that you can use alternatively in both seasons.
You could skip on the moisturizer if you have way oily skin and your antioxidant serums are providing you with enough hydration that your skin needs, but using it will be beneficial for you, especially if you can figure out that one moisturizer whose ingredients are not too heavy for your skin type if it is on the oily side.
Those of you who have dry skin will definitely not have any specific issues in using moisturizer in their skincare routine as an addition after their serums.
6. Face Oil (Optional)
This step is mostly recommended for those with drier skin type. If you have a really dry skin and you feel like your skin still feels like lacking enough hydration after using serums and moisturizer, then you can go for light or heavy face oil based on the hydration needs of your skin.
But if you are someone with an oily skin, you may not need face oil. But still if you have given it a try and it works for your skin, then you can use it as an additional step of your daytime skincare routine.
I, myself have addiction towards using face oils despite having an oily skin and they have never been any bad for my skin and have always given me positive results. So it totally depends on your choice. Give it a try and then decide whether you want to make it a part of your day time skincare routine or not.
7. Sunscreen
Sunscreen may be the last step of your day time skincare routine, but it is the most important step that you should not skip every morning even if you are someone who does not use any single step from the above mentioned skincare routine.
Never try to leave your house without applying sunscreen. A sunscreen with an SPF of 30 and above is always recommended for better results. Personally, I will recommend using an SPF of 50 for your daily use.
A sunscreen can actually make your skin look 10 years younger than your real age if you use it regularly on a daily basis. It also helps to protect your skin from Ultraviolet Rays coming from sunlight that can cause skin damage and initiate premature aging and wrinkles on your skin.
This is the most accurate and the most affective order of applying your daytime skincare products. By following this order of applying skincare products, you will gain hundred percent positive results for your skin and your skin will thank you for carrying forward this routine on a regular basis.
You can apply your makeup right after going through this skincare routine.
