Makeup application process varies person to person even if it is someone who is new to it or if it is the makeup application process of professional makeup artists.

Today, I being a makeup artist and makeup obsessive person will be telling you guys the most genuine and safest possible makeup application order. By following up on the products and the order in which they should be used as per my guidance, you will be able to achieve a beautiful and professional makeup look every single time you will be doing your own makeup.

This is not the only benefit behind following up this article. The order of makeup application that has been brought up for you guys in this blog post is going to make your makeup looks to come alive in really short time as well. Hence you will be able to accomplish a glamorous, beautiful and professional makeup looks without wasting one or two hours on it.

Let’s begin this blog post and find out what is the Correct Order of Makeup Application!

Correct Order Of Makeup Application

1. Skincare and Moisturizer

Skincare routine will always be the number one priority if you are someone who is obsessed with makeup and wears it almost every single day of your life.

So you must follow up with you basic Skincare Routine and when you are done with your morning skincare routine, the very next and the very first step of your makeup application will be applying a very good moisturizer on your skin including your face and neck both.

If you are someone with a dry skin, then make sure that you are using a heavy moisturizer. This will help your skin to remain hydrated for longer hours and not turn your foundation base flaky.

So, the very first step of makeup application includes a Moisturizer but after having completed your morning skincare routine.

2.  Sunscreen

Now for those of you who have a full fledge morning routine that ends with a sunscreen, you can definitely skip on this step and move to the next. But for those of you, who do not use sunscreen on a daily basis or do not include it as a part of their morning skincare routine, I will highly suggest you to apply your sunscreen before applying other makeup products.

When it comes to using a sunscreen, it is always suggested to use a sunscreen with an SPF of 50 and above. You can opt for any brand that suits your skin type.

3. Primer

Primer is basically that one makeup product, which is considered really important by makeup gurus. For me it is not an essential part of my makeup routine, despite having pores and textured skin. But if you are a professional makeup artist who works on party and bridal looks, you must know that your clients always want a blurred and smooth makeup look and not only that, few amongst us have such an oily skin, that makeup does not stay put really well on the T zone of the face, hence making the application of primer essential.

So, right after applying the sunscreen, the next product that comes on number three in makeup application order is a primer. Apply a really small quantity of primer on the T zone of your face including the nose area, cheeks & above your forehead. This will smooth out any pores or textures present on the skin and help you achieve a flawless canvas to apply your foundation base.

4. Eyebrows

This is surprising for many. That I know for sure!

If you are someone who is new to makeup and not a professional, I will never suggest you to go for your foundation base before doing your eyes. The major reason behind this is that the beginners usually tend to make mistakes in their eye looks a lot. And if you have already applied your foundation and there is some fall out on your face, then cleaning that can actually mess up your foundation when you are not professionally trained for it.

So, as soon as you have applied your face primer, I will suggest you to start doing your eyebrows. Fill in your brows, give them your required shape, use a Spoolie to set them in place and then apply concealer all around your eyebrows and define your eyebrows shape further with the use of concealer and then move forward for the next step.

5. Eye Makeup

After finishing off your eyebrows, the next correct order of makeup application will be doing your eye shadow look.

Apply your eye shadow, blend them well and create whatever look you want to create and then clean the edges if there is any extra shadow left or if you feel like one eye is not matching the other eye with respect to the depth of the shadow on the outer corners of your eyes.

One major benefit of not doing your foundation before your eyebrows & eye shadow look is that any fall outs or mistakes can be wiped off easily without having to retouch your foundation which can take a lot of time for both beginner makeup artists and professionals as well.

One major thing to keep in mind here is to not apply your eye shadows on the under eye area whilst doing your eye shadow. The reason is that we still have to apply our foundation and concealer on that specific area and it can be difficult to blend these products on the said area if the eye shadow has been applied already and you can sometimes mess it up. Hence you should always apply the under eye shadow after doing your foundation and concealer.

Your eye shadow loom should not end by applying the eye shadows only. This step includes having your eyeliner, mascara and eyelashes done too.

 6. Foundation

Now that you are happy with your eyebrows and eye shadow look, the next correct order of makeup application will be to apply your foundation.

Apply the foundation all over your face and neck then blend it really well with the help of a sponge or a beauty blender that is damp.

7. Concealer

I just love concealers. After doing your foundation, apply your liquid concealer on your nose bridge, under your eyes, on your chin, in the middle of your forehead and your philtrum (the area that comes between your nose and lips).

Blend out your concealer really well and then let it sit on your face for two or three minutes before applying your next makeup product that is going to be explained in step number seven of correct order of makeup application.

8. Setting Powder

When it comes to setting powders, I always prefer using translucent ones. Not that they are super effective in setting your makeup for longer hours but they are also very easy to use and a safe play for beginner makeup artists.

After applying your concealer and blending it out, you should use a brush and apply the translucent setting powder all over your face and neck area and set it in place.

One more thing that I will want you to do in this step with the same translucent setting powder is to take you damp sponge o beauty blender and use this setting powder to bake your face. Baking helps to set the makeup in the T zone area of your face in such a way that it will stay longer and your foundation will not crack up or move even if you have an oily face. Not only this, it is also supposed to accentuate your makeup look even more and act as a super buddy of you contouring process of your makeup look.

Apply the powder on your T zone area and let it sit there for five to ten minutes and the dust it off with a powder brush. After dusting this off, you can follow up with your eye shadow look and apply your under eye shadows.

9. Contour

Contouring is the queen of your makeup look. With the help of contouring, you can accentuate and highlight specific features of your face and shadow or hide the features that you do not want to highlight or show a lot in your pictures or in your real makeup look.

You can either go for a powder contour or a cream contour as well, or even the mixture of both if you are doing professional look and your bride wants strong contouring.

Use an angled brush for best contour results and always contour your nose, forehead, cheeks, and temple area and below the chin area to get a chiseled face and a perfect makeup loom that will help you get some amazing photographs.

10. Blush

Blush is the next product to be used in your correct order of makeup application. Use a blush brush and apply it on your cheeks, the bridge of your nose and a little bit in the middle of your chin for a fresh and beautiful makeup look.

11. Highlighter

I always say that there is nothing that a highlighter cannot fix!

This statement is a universal truth for me, because I have used a highlighter to fix almost many of makeup mistakes and no one ever noticed that there was something wrong with the makeup.

Not only this but a highlighter, just like a bronzer or contour shade can actually be used for your eye shadow as well. You can use it as a base shade before applying your major eye shadows and also use it as a shimmery shade in a cut crease look over the concealed cut crease area. Trust me; they last longer than shimmer eye shadows.

Well! Coming back to our correct order of makeup application, you should use a highlighter right after doing your blush. Yes, I know you have seen beauty gurus doing their highlighters after applying their makeup fixing sprays, but guys you must try this my way before judging my makeup skills without any trials.

You can always add more highlighter after using the fixing spray as well, but you must try and use it right after applying your blush.

For highlighter, my perfect way of applying it will include applying it on your cheek bones, above your eyebrows, a little bit on the top center of your forehead right below your hairline, on your nose bridge, philtrum and in the middle of your chin as well. You will thank me later once you will try it yourself.

 12. Lipstick

Lipstick is always the second last step for me in the correct order of makeup application.

Always apply a lip liner that matches your lipstick and then apply your lipstick with the help of a lipstick brush for a better and precise application. If you are planning on to use a matte liquid lipstick, I will always suggest applying a matching creamy lipstick on your lips before applying your matte liquid lipstick.

This will not only enhance you matte liquid lipstick’s shade but will also make your lipstick last longer.

13. Fixing Spray

Makeup fixing sprays are used to help your makeup set properly on your face and to help it last longer.

If you are done with your whole makeup look, then cover your eyes and spray your fixing spray onto your face by keeping it at some distance and make sure that it is covering your face and not being applied from such a close angle that it is actually splashing and dripping down from your face as droplets.

After applying the makeup fixing spray, use a hand fan to dry it out and voila! You are done with your makeup look. You can add more highlighter after finishing this step when your fixing spray has dried properly if you want a super highlighted makeup look.

So guys this was the correct order of makeup application as per me. This is the only order that I use for my own makeup looks and for professional makeup looks of my clients as well and trust me, this order has never failed me and I am always done with my professional makeup looks in short time period.
